General Education Statement from Salt Lake Community College:
This course is part of the General Education Program at Salt Lake Community College. It is designed not only to teach the information and skills required by the discipline, but also to develop vital workplace skills and to teach strategies and skills that can be used for life-long learning. Our objective is to help each student acquire substantive knowledge in the field of their choice, develop quantitative literacy, learn to communicate effectively, think critically, and develop knowledge and skills to be civically engaged.
While the subject of each course is important and useful, we become truly educated through making connections of such varied information with the different methods of organizing human experience that are practiced by different disciplines. Therefore, this course, when combined with other General Education courses, will enable you to develop broader perspectives and deeper understandings of your community and the world, as well as challenge previously held assumptions about the world and its inhabitants. You will also explore a wide variety of topics with an eye toward discovering new interests and uncovering new talents.
General Education courses teach basic skills as well as broaden a student’s knowledge of a wide range of subjects. Education is much more than the acquisition of facts; it is being able to use information in meaningful ways in order to enrich one’s life. General Education courses focus on communication, creativity, and critical thinking skills and along with the substance of the course’s information, an appreciation of the esthetics of the area of study and its connection to the larger social web.
This course fulfills a Social Studies requirement for graduation credit.
Completion of this course at Copper Hills High School will transfer the high school grade achieved to a college transcript.

Makeup work must be turned in within five school days of the absence.
2. Preparation and participation. Attendance Policy: To receive credit in this class this attendance policy must be followed:
Students will receive a “No Grade” in class when one of the following occurs:
ONE Truancy (requires two attendance school sessions to make up)
THREE absences (requires one attendance school session beginning with the third and subsequent absences)
FOUR tardies (requires one attendance school session for each two tardies beginning with the fourth and subsequent tardies)
Make-Up Work: Students will have five school days to make up work missed (assignments or quizzes/tests) for an excused absence. Make-up work for truancies will not be allowed, for either assignments or quizzes/tests. Teachers in the business department will be available for make-up work and tests, individual help, or other student needs on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 7:00 to 7:35 a.m., and after school each day until 3:00 p.m. Friday mornings, all teachers will be involved in Comprehensive School Improvement activities.
Class Rules: Students will be expected to show respect for themselves, for the teacher, for other students in the classroom, and for the equipment that will be used. Class rules are based upon these expectations. Students will be expected to follow the guidelines listed in the Jordan School District Acceptable Use Policy, which each student was required to sign as part of his or her school registration prior to the beginning of the school year.
Class rules are:
1. Students have ONE WEEK from the date of an absence to get make-up work turned in. Makeup work will not be accepted after that time.
2. Students will use equipment appropriately and according to teacher’s directions.
3. Students will follow all written and verbal directions.
4. No food, gum, or drinks in the classroom.
5. No cell phones or other electronic devices in class, including iPods and CD players (this is a Jordan School District policy). If students break this rule, the following will apply:
a. First infraction: warning

c. Third infraction: the teacher will take the device and turn it in to the vice principal. The student will then be responsible to the administration to retrieve the device.
6. Students will respect others in the class. Rudeness in any form is unacceptable.
7. Sharing of assignments between students will absolutely not be tolerated. If such sharing does occur, all students involved will receive zero points on the assignment or test involved, and they will also receive a reduction in their citizenship grades.
Infractions of the rules will result in one or more of the following, depending upon frequency and
severity of the problem: loss of daily participation points, calls home, or referral to administration.
Those students who follow the rules will receive one or more of the following: positive notes to student or parent and the option to redo a test or assignment.
Hall Passes: To cut down on unnecessary absences from class time, students will be allowed to use a hall pass no more than twice each quarter for legitimate purposes (5-minute limit). Additionally, no hall passes will be issued the first 20 minutes of each class.
Admission to SLCC: This class requires online registration at Salt Lake Community College, which includes a one-time $45 charge. Once a student has enrolled as a concurrent student at SLCC, there is no charge for additional concurrent classes taken throughout his/her high school experience, regardless of the number of classes taken concurrently, plus a $15 charge for tuition for each Concurrent Enrollment course. Students enrolled in concurrent classes should already have registered for Salt Lake Community College. However, if registration has not yet been completed, it MUST be completed prior to Friday, August 30th. Students who remain unregistered after that date will be dropped from this class.
The admission application is online at www.slcc.edu/concurrentenrollment. On the “Students & Parents” tab, click “Admission Steps.” In step two, scroll to the bottom and click “Begin Online Application.” The $40 fee may be paid online with a credit or debit card.
Additional Partial Tuition Requirement: A partial tuition cost is now associated with each concurrent enrollment class. Students are required to pay $5.00 per credit hour. Since this is a three credit hour course, students will therefore be required to pay partial tuition of $15.00. To pay partial tuition, te student should log in to their SLCC MyPage account (www.slcc.edu) click on the “Student” tab, then the “Pay Partial Tuition” tab.
Students who have not paid their partial tuition required by October 1st will have a hold placed on their accounts. This will prevent them from registering for an additional concurrent enrollment course, and they will be unable to request an official SLCC transcript.
E-Portfolio: As part of the requirements for SLCC general education courses, students will create an online e-portfolio with assignments and reflection.
*REQUIRED MATERIALS: Students will be expected to bring their own pen or pencil to class every day. All students are required to purchase the course text book, “MGMT - 7th Edition", by Chuck Williams.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Students must be registered for SLCC in order to take this class! If students do not wish to take this class for college credit, they should notify their guidance counselor immediately, and they will transferred into a different, non-concurrent enrollment, class.

1.Concurrent Enrollment provides an option for prepared high school students to take courses that earn both high school and college credit.
2.Concurrent Enrollment (CE) courses are college courses. College course(s) require rigorous academic work. Course content may include controversial cultural, religious, political, aesthetic and human sexuality issues. Students must have the maturity to engage with the material in an academically appropriate manner and the organization and time management skills to complete more work and meet deadlines. Students must also meet all college/university prerequisite requirements before enrolling in a CE course.
3.The CE program is open to high school juniors and seniors, sophomores may be admitted on a case-by-case basis. Students must be enrolled in a Utah public high school and be counted in the average daily membership. Students who have received a diploma, whose class has graduated from high school, or who have participated in graduation exercises are not eligible to participate in the CE program. Home-schooled students are eligible to participate in CE courses with local LEA permission and completion of an application. Home-schooled students are subject to the same obligations as any other student in the Concurrent Enrollment Program.
4.Students may attempt up to 30 CE credits per year and may not repeat a CE course.
5.CE course registrations and grades are recorded on permanent college transcripts.
6.Withdrawing from or failing a CE course may impact a student’s ability to receive financial aid in the future as well as a student’s ability to enroll in additional CE courses.
7.SUBMISSION OF THIS FORM DOES NOT ENROLL THE STUDENT IN CE COURSE(S). The student is responsible for completing the admission and enrollment process, paying applicable admission fees and tuition.
8.If a student withdraws from a course at the high school, s/he must also withdraw from the course at the college. Failure to do so may result in a failing grade on the college transcript.
9.CE credit earned shall be transferable from one USHE institution to another. Students should seek advice from a college academic advisor to make course choices that meet their educational goals and transfer as equivalent credit.
10.CE students must abide by the college/university Student Code of Conduct as well as the high school Student Code of Conduct.
11.Students must contact the college or university CE administrator to request any accommodations that may be required under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
